“Treps,” short for entrepreneurs: people who take risks and build businesses. Use was started on Twitter, to help keep Tweets under the 140 character limit. “Treps” most often refers to people who start a business with a lot of passion and little (or no) money.

I’ve been working on a way to partner with Georgian College and their Entrepreneur Program and students for over a year. It’s been a hard go. A lot of bureaucracy, politics and a little bit of confusion around collaboration with the private sector. Then I ran into Mark Fletcher! Mark is a full-time faculty at Georgian’s School of Business. He came in off the street on Saturday out of the blue, heard what we were doing and said, “Why isn’t the College a part of this?!” ;o)

Long story short, we came up with the idea of inviting his summer class (20 students) into the space to meet with our ‘treps! So, the last Thursday of May, June, July and August he will bring his class down to TCS for an hour of eating, chatting, questioning, and critiquing. One hour with us ‘treps, then he’ll meet with them on his own to digest their time.

I was chatting with Asa about a simular gathering for other ‘treps in Barrie to come and test their ideas over lunch. We’ll let you know as things progress!

Here are some pics from today’s event with 20 student ‘treps and 7 TCSers
